Congratulations to rePlay Arts: “Fabric of Community” Selected for National Exhibition

We’re excited to celebrate one of UVTPC’s organizational partners, rePlay Arts, whose community-created artwork Fabric of Community has been selected for a national exhibition in Washington, D.C.!

The mixed-media piece grew out of a simple but powerful invitation: create a quilt square in response to the prompt “My Hope for America is…”

Throughout the spring and summer, members of Zack’s Place, local artists, rePlay Arts visitors, and other community members contributed squares using a wide variety of materials and techniques. By July, those individual expressions of hope had been stitched together into a colorful representation of the community’s collective vision for the future.

And the project isn’t finished. rePlay Arts is intentionally keeping the piece unquilted so that new squares—and new hopes—can continue to be added over time.

Fabric of Community is now one of just 30 artworks from across the country selected for Becoming America: Honoring the Past, Creating the Future, a national exhibition commemorating 250 years since the Declaration of Independence. The artwork will be displayed in Washington, D.C., alongside work from artists and community groups from around the country before returning home to rePlay Arts.

We love seeing an Upper Valley project that brings together creativity, community, reuse, and reflection receive national recognition. It’s also a wonderful example of how art can create space for people of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities to contribute their voices to a shared conversation.
