Fashion
Fast Fashion, with its quick production and disposal of cheap clothing, contributes to carbon emissions and environmental damage throughout its lifecycle. It often exploits marginalized communities, especially in low-income countries, with unsafe conditions and low wages. We can make a difference by choosing sustainable alternatives, supporting transparency, and promoting fair trade and ethical practices in the fashion industry to create a future where fashion is both eco-friendly and equitable.
Fashion Topic Champion - Melanie Adsit of rePlay Arts
rePlay Arts is a creative reuse arts organization in the Upper Valley that provides access to affordable supplies, opportunities for creative exploration, and hands-on educational programs for makers of all ages. We collect usable artmaking materials that would otherwise be destined for the landfill and repurpose and redistribute them to the community through programs, events, and workshops, as well as at our “pay what you can” shop in White River Junction, VT. rePlay Arts works to promote awareness and understanding of creative reuse, develop a shared commitment to improving the environment, and provide all people with opportunities to find their inner artist.
How can rePlay Arts help?
◦ Develop classroom lessons and projects that can be created with recycled materials
â—¦ Work with teachers to integrate artmaking into classroom curriculum
â—¦ Provide low-or no-cost art supplies for students and teachers to use for both in-school and at-home projects
